CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---The Chattanooga men’s basketball program signed one of its own, so to speak, in highly-touted forward Chris Early as announced by Head Coach John Shulman on Tuesday.  Early entered school in December 2007 and practiced with the team.  He will be eligible in December after Fall semester finals.

“We are very excited to have talent like Chris Early in the program,” said Shulman.  “He comes in with a national rep as a player and is a proven winner.  He can shoot it inside and out with great range.  He can play the 3’ and 4’ and should be a very difficult matchup in our league.”

Chris originally signed with Oklahoma out of high school, but he did not enroll for the Fall 2007 semester.  Early ranked in rivals.com’s top 150 overall, and No. 27 at shooting guard after his senior season (2006-07).  He prepped at Huntington (W.Va.) High School as a teammate of O.J. Mayo (USC) and Patrick Patterson (Kentucky) helping lead HHS to three consecutive state AAA titles with a 74-6 record over that span.

Early is a two-time all-state honorable mention while earning first team All-State tournament.  Twice Chris won West Virginia high school slam dunk competitions and helped lead the Boo Williams AAU team to a second-place finish nationally playing alongside Patterson, Chris Wright (Georgetown) and Ed Davis (North Carolina).

Early joins Jasper Williams, Ty Patterson and Ricky Taylor as 2008-09 incoming signees and Vanderbilt transfer Keegan Bell who will be eligible in 2009-10.
