North Leader Chattanooga Starts Pivotal Road Trip at Western Carolina

WHOJahmal Burroughs (New Orleans, La.) is expected to start Thursday at the 4.  He started 8 games as a freshman at the University of New Orleans (2008-09).  His career high of eight rebounds came at UNCG and at home vs. Elon.  He is third on the team with 31 offensive boards averaging less than 13 minutes per contest.

NOTES:

  • Chattanooga is 10-3 in league play, 7-0 at home and 3-3 on the road. Chattanooga is 7-0 against North Division opponents, 3-3 vs. the South. The wins against the South have come on the road at The Citadel (69-68) and at home over College of Charleston (91-88) and Georgia Southern (75-66).

  • The Mocs are 11-1 in games where the score is within five points (leading or trailing) with five minutes left in the contest with wins over Kennesaw State (-1), Marshall (-2), Western Carolina (tied), at Elon (+3), at UNCG (+1), at The Citadel (+1), Samford (+3), College of Charleston (+2), home against UNCG (-3), home vs. Elon (+4) and Georgia Southern (+4). The lone loss was at home to Austin Peay (-4). UTC is 11-0 when leading with five to play regardless of the score differential.

Keegan Bell (Hazel Green, Ala.)

  • Leads SoCon in assists per game (6.3) and assist/turnover ratio (2.6). Latter stat is more impressive considering the Mocs' up-tempo attack. Those averages are 6.4 apg and 3.1 A/TO in league games only. He is tied for seventh in 3pt made per game (1.9).
  • 15th nationally in assists and 26th in A/TO ratio (thru 2/6).
  • 3rd on the team in scoring (9.3 ppg) and in free throw pct (72.9). Team leader in steals with 23 and minutes played (35.0/gm).

Chris Early (Huntington, W. Va.)

  • Suspended due to flagrant foul call in Davidson game. Officials decided on the call by watching replay.
  • Leads squad with 158 rebounds, 6.3 per game. 6th in the league on the boards.
  • Started all 25 games this season.
  • 1st game vs. WCU: 12 pts, 7 reb, 3-5 FG, 1-1 3pt, 5-6 FT playing just 20 minutes.
