CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Chattanooga Mocs Head Coach John Shulman and staff had to go under the radar for his first signing of his 2012 class. Joshu'a Warren, a 6-7, 225-lb., power forward out of Fishburne Military School returned National Letter of Intent papers today. He chose Chattanooga over Bowling Green.
"Josh Warren is an under the radar guy," Shulman said. "We got very fortunate. Coach (Rick) Cabrera made a trip to Fishburne Military School to watch a practice, it's an up-and-coming post-grad program, and there he was.
"He ran into a kid that has great size, great body and unbelievable athleticism who is from the south (Marietta, Ga.)," Shulman continued. "All of the sudden we are involved with a post guy we think is going to be pretty special one day."
Warren's is an interesting story. He did not play much while attending Marietta High School but was discovered by Fishburne Head Coach Ed Huckaby while playing over the summer for the Charlotte Royals AAU team. Huckaby's background as a former assistant at Wright State is another positive factor according to Shulman.
"He's going to be well-coached coming out of there," added Shulman. "Coach Huckaby is a college coach who is now coaching at the post-grad level. So he's going to be coached, and it's like he is already going to college being away from home with a strong academic and athletic program.
"Now he is on a team with 10 or 11 DI signees," Shulman concluded. "He's got great competition day-in and day-out and that is only going to help him. He's going to be the surprise of our recruiting class."
