MACON, Ga. --- Chris Robb shot two-under par 70 as the Chattanooga Mocs sit tied for sixth after 18 holes at the Brickyard Collegiate. Chattanooga navigated the opening round on the Brickyard at Riverside at three-over par 291 tying Virginia Tech.
Robb is tied for ninth two shots behind the leader, Nicholas Reach of Georgia who shot a 68 (-4). There are six golfers tied for second at 69.
The junior from Aberdeenshire, Scotland birdied two and seven to get to two-under par before a bogey on eight had him at one under at the turn. He maintained that same schedule on the back with birdies on 11 and 15 and a bogey on 16 for his two-under 70.
Fellow junior Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) is tied for 24th with a one-over par 73. He took a ride on the course rollercoaster today with five birdies, eight pars, four bogeys and a double bogey. Bunn started out bogey-bogey but birdied three, four, seven and nine to shoot minus two on his front nine.
It was a struggle on the back with bogeys on 11 and 13. He followed double on 17 but a strong birdie on the par five finishing hole ended his round at 73. He is a stroke ahead of teammates Liam Johnston (Dumfries, Scotland) and Michael Monroe (Franklin, Tenn.) who shot 74s.
Johnston's round was a great turnaround. He was plus five through 11 holes before closing with three birdies to get back to 74 (+2). Monroe, a freshman playing in his first collegiate event, had a solid round. Benni Weilguni (Langenlois, Austria) posted the drop score with a 77.
Georgia is the team leader after an eight-under par 280. It leads North Florida (283) by three and Princeton (286) by six.
Saturday's moving day 18 starts at 9:20 a.m., for the Mocs off No. 1 again. Tomorrow's pairing includes Georgia Tech (289) and Kansas (288) with Weilgiuni starting off. Monroe (9:30), Johnston (9:40), Bunn (9:50) and Robb (10:00) follow with live scoring is available via the men's golf schedule page on GoMocs.com. You can follow @GoMocsMGLF on twitter for updates.
