Postgame Quotes vs. Georgia Southern

Chattanooga Basketball Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga at Georgia Southern
Hanner Fieldhouse - Statesboro, Ga.
Saturday - Feb. 2, 2013

Chattanooga Head Coach John Shulman
Thoughts on the game
"We've had some bad cards dealt, and we've all been there. We were down 21 in the second half at Georgia Southern. They are a talented basketball team. They came out and made shots early. We couldn't get a stop, but I am proud of our kids for battling back with six minutes left. We asked them to rip open their chests and expose their hearts. We told them to go for it, and they understand that when you go for it that sometimes you get heartbroken."

Thoughts on the final play
"For us to come back in the 'bad-break after bad-break' frame of mind is tough. You have Ferguson banking on in from the top of the key and our kids are still fighting. To come back from 21 is a great thing, and for Gee McGhee to step to the foul line and hit two with 40 seconds to go to take the lead is pretty gutty. For us to come back is pretty gutty. I still felt comfortable playing man and doubling Reed in that last possession. We got beat on a broken play. We liked what we drew up at the end, felt comfortable with it, and they did a good job. We were asking a freshman to do an awful lot, but I really didn't have another choice. Gee will learn from it. I appreciated our kids' effort. I know the result is a loss, but I appreciate the effort."

"We've been rewarded. We've got some wins, and it's very simple. If you keep putting yourself in this position with an opportunity to win, you have a chance to win. If you're down 25 to Elon with five to play, you don't have a prayer, so you're looking at UNCG down two and up one with four to play with Georgia Southern. And that's without Dontay Hampton. We have to keep on working and getting better. I think our kids believe we can win and be successful. We have a tough schedule. We've played six of our first nine SoCon games on the road. This is February and we've played two home conference games since Christmas. We've had a lot piled on us, but being down 21 and battling back because they believed is us battling through a lot of adversity. There aren't many teams who can pressure like Georgia Southern, but we only turned the ball over twice in the second half. Results are results, and you have to win, but I liked our kids tonight and I am proud of them."

Gee McGhee, sophomore, guard
Thoughts going into the game
"I talked to Dontay before the game and he said to keep my head up. He told me times goes by quick in four years and I need to take advantage of opportunities. I just took that into consideration tonight and thought about him the entire time. We just couldn't finish tonight."

Thoughts on the comeback
"Teams get comfortable when they have big leads. We made a great run. Our coaches were great and our bench had enthusiasm, but we just couldn't finish. We have to practice, get better and come back at it next time."

Thoughts on shooting two free throws to put the Mocs on top late
"I felt comfortable after I got a few easy buckets. I went to the line multiple times tonight so I knew I just needed to take my times and breathe. I knew I need to play my game, not stress and have fun. Having fun and playing with your family is what this game is all about."

Drazen Zlovaric, senior, forward
Thoughts on the comeback in the second half
"I try, every time I got out there, to give my all no matter what. It's unfortunate we fell short tonight because it was a great comeback for us. We were down 21, and it is tough on the road to dig down deep to find motivation and juice to comeback. But we did and I am really proud of my team. We just fell short at the end."

Thoughts on the Mocs' confidence
"The comeback was big. No doubt about it. We realized we could really win this game near the end, but it is tough to fall short at the end. We have a big home schedule coming up and it would have been nice to have won the last road game going back. I think it would have given it a lot of confidence, but I think we build a lot of confidence today because of how we played. If that shot falls in, we win and everything is great. You can't say you're not proud of the team and how we played tonight."

Thoughts on guarding Reed
"He is a really good player with a lot of experience as a senior. We were trying to get the ball out of his hands. Unfortunately, we fouled him a few times but I think we did a decent job of guarding him. Especially in the second half."
