Postgame Quotes at No. 22 UCLA - Nov. 24, 2013
Head Coach Will Wade
Thoughts on UCLA’s play
“They are very talented offensively. We didn’t put up much resistance or much of a fight. They’re very talented, have a great scheme and really space you. They have a lot of things that put you in a tough spot. They are phenomenal and probably a top-15 team. I like their team a lot and they really took it to us tonight in a big way.”

Thoughts on the game
“Tonight was embarrassing. I am not going to sugar-coat it. It was an embarrassment for us and our program. I am not going to act like we fought back because we should have never been down like that. We didn’t compete like we needed to and it’s the first game all year where we didn’t come and compete like we needed to. We played scared and timid. We didn’t deny in the half court, we didn’t do what we were supposed to do, and we didn’t play to our identity. I am just very disappointed. Give UCLA credit because they took us out of a lot of things and did some really good things, but we didn’t do what we needed to do. We have to get it corrected and are going to get it corrected. We are going to go back to work and get it right. That is just an unacceptable performance for our team.”

On learning from this loss
“We are going to use this game as a learning experience. We laid down and got beat by 40 points. We need to learn from that. We have to have some pride. We have to have pride about what we are doing and have some fight. I thought we had two or three guys who had some really good fight, but then I thought we had some guys who didn’t. And if you’re not going to fight until the very end, you’re not going to play. We are going to reassess some things with that. Defensively, we didn’t get matched up and didn’t follow the scouting report. We gave up 60 points in the second half and that is unacceptable.”

Martynas Bareika, guard, junior
On scoring 17 points against UCLA, including four three-pointers
“Somebody had to. I think we were something 1-for-11 in the first half from three-point range. I just felt it.”

On playing at Pauley Pavilion
“I don’t think we were overwhelmed. Don’t get me wrong, they are a really good team, but we just weren’t ready. They threw a bunch of punches and cuts at us. They knocked us down and we couldn’t stand back up.”

On making a run late in the game
“We woke up too late. If we start attacking it in the first half, we stand a better chance. We just have to learn to come back in the game. We felt like we had the chance to do that here but we just couldn’t make it back. We just couldn’t stand back up.”

On moving forward after the loss
“We have to forget about this game. We have to remember what it is like to lose like this, but we have to delete this game and move on. We have to get ready to play the next game and put this loss behind us.”
