LADY MOCS HOST BELMONT SUNDAY AT THE ROUNDHOUSE

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s basketball team returns home to host Belmont University in an afternoon tilt at the McKenzie Arena. The game is set to tip off at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at the Roundhouse box office or online at GoMocs.com.

Chattanooga is 8-3 against the Bruins and 4-1 at home. UTC’s lone loss in Chattanooga was on Valentine’s Day in 1977 under former head coach Sharon Fanning. It was the second straight loss to Belmont in as many games. UTC last loss was a 58-52 final in 1978 on the road. Since 1979, the Lady Mocs have won six consecutive games evenly split between home and road contests. Last season the Lady Mocs came away with an 84-54 win in Nashville. Taylor Hall, with a game-high 16 points in just 20 minutes of play, led four Chattanooga players in double figures. Faith Dupree and Tatianna Jackson each had 12 points for UTC and Ashlen Dewart scored 10 points off the bench. UTC shot 48.3 percent from the field and was 7-of-15 from the 3-point line. Chattanooga outrebounded the Bruins 39-31 and forced 21 turnovers.

Belmont is led by first year head coach Carmen Newbauer and is 2-1 on the year with back-to-back wins over Mercer and Lipscomb. The Bruins lone loss was an 80-58 fall in the season opener at IUPUI. Jordyn Luffman lead the team with 14.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Blair Bryce also averages double figures and is second on the team in scoring with 10.0 points per game. Torie Vaught with a team-best five 3-pointers, averages 9.3 points per game while Frankie Joubran is second on the team in rebounding with 6.6 per game and fourth in scoring averaging 8.3 points.

Chattanooga is led in scoring by Taylor Hall who had a career-best 24 points in the Lady Mocs’ season opener against Alabama. She is averaging 18 points per game and 5.0 rebounds. Faith Dupree leads the team on the boards with 7.5 per game including a career-high 13 against the Tide and has 9.5 points per game. Meghan Downes is second on the team in scoring with 10.5 points per game and has a team-high four 3-pointers.
