Where did the continuity go and where did the system go wrong?
“Too much individual play. A lot of individual play. That’s the way we started the game. We took quick shots. Took shots off of inbounds plays we don’t like to take. We play in a very, very individualistic play. It just manifested itself in a lot of respects, in a lot of different areas.”
On getting back to the team concept:
“We are just going to give some freshmen an opportunity. If you are going to resist, we just will head in another direction. We want players who want to play the way we want to play with the intensity we want to play. We played in spurts. Too often quick shots.
I think Taylor Hall is feeling a lot of pressure to do a lot of things, because she is not getting a lot of help right now in my opinion. Her effort today was terrific. 16 rebounds, four assists, but the ball wasn’t going in early. She felt she had to make the plays. As she looked around I think she sees the same thing I am seeing. Quick shots and forced plays.”
“We tried three back-door passes in the first three minutes of the game that were clearly not there. No one was open. You create your own breaks…when playing on someone else’s court, you can’t expect calls. It’s not going to happen. You’ve got to make that happen.
“When you are taking shots quickly, you’re ability to be a good offensive rebounding team (is gone). People are surprised you took the shot. They are not anticipating the shot. They are not ready. We just have to grow.
Did you have the opportunity to get back in the game?
“We would fight back and make it competitive, then shoot ourselves in the foot once or twice…breakdowns that are inexplicable.”
