SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior forward Ashlen Dewart (Spartanburg, S.C.) was named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of December 17, the league office announced Tuesday
Dewart averaged 20.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in three Chattanooga wins last week. She averaged 69 percent from the field for the week and was 5-of-7 (71.4%) from the 3-point line. Against Jacksonville State, Dewart scored a then-season-best 25 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the year. In Monday night’s dominating win over Elon, she topped her season high with 29 points on 13-of-16 shooting and was 2-of-2 from the 3-point line while matching her season best with 10 rebounds. In UTC’s win over UNCG, she had six points and three rebounds.
The 2013 Southern Conference Tournament Most Outstanding Player, is fourth in the league in field goal percentage making 52.6 percent of her shots. She is 14th in the league in scoring with 11.3 points per game and moved to 18th in the SoCon standings for rebounding averaging 4.9 per game.
Chattanooga will return to the road Wednesday at Austin Peay. The game is set to tip off at 8 p.m. Eastern time and will be carried LIVE on Hippie Radio 106.9 FM.
