SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's Whitney Hood was named the Southern Conference women's basketball January Player of the Month the league office announced Tuesday.
Hood, a junior from Meridian, Miss., averaged 20.8 points per game during the month of January. She scored 20 or more points four times, including a career-high 40-point output against Wofford. She posted double-doubles against the Terriers and UNCG with a career-high 13 rebounds against the Spartans.
The Lady Mocs forward also dished out a career-high four assists in a win over Western Carolina and had a career-best three blocks against Samford.
Hood is currently the leading scorer in the Southern Conference for the season with 20.3 points per game and is second in the league in field goal percentage (53.8%) and fifth in rebounding with 7.1 per game. In the NCAA Hood is ranked 13th among all Division players and 27th in field goal percentage.
The Lady Mocs will close out the home portion of their schedule this weekend beginning Saturday against Davidson College. The game is set to tip at 6 p.m. Fans who bring three canned goods to the game to benefit the Greater Chattanooga Area Food Bank will receive one FREE ticket at the gate.
