Chattanooga vs. College of Charleston
Chattanooga, Tenn. - McKenzie Arena
Feb. 11, 2012
Coach Wes Moore
"First half was pretty ugly, again College of Charleston, you have to give them credit. They do a great job defensively and they make it hard on you to run your stuff and take away your first and second options. I also thought we had too many unforced turnovers. We didn't shoot the ball well. The only thing I think we did well in the first half was rebound. I thought we did a great job on both ends of the floor. That's something we're going to have to keep up and continue throughout the rest of the season if we're going to have any success. Second half was much better. We only had five turnovers and shot the ball a little better. Played much cleaner in the second half and got to play a lot of people. A good team win. I think we had one player in double figures and that was Kayla Christopher with 11 and had a lot of people contribute. It's a good way to leave the building feeling good about yourself and build momentum for the stretch."
On his team's bench play
"I thought Faith gave us a lift. I thought when Whitney Hood went in those last five minutes of the first half and it was still a pretty tight game, I thought Whitney really turned up the intensity and took over a little bit in those few minutes and we were able to build a ten point lead going into the half. We had a lot of people come off the bench and contribute and do some good things. We're still searching. When you're not shooting well you've got to try some other options. We'll keep doing that until we can get it fixed."
On if his team's mindset changes in third place in the conference as opposed to first
"It stinks. I struggle with it and I probably don't help our team any because of it. But when you win 11 straight your expectations are very high. I probably sometimes make it tougher on the team. I'm miserable and I probably make them miserable. We're going to get back. I still think we have a shot but we don't have any room for error now. I think we've got to have a streak here and put together several wins to have a chance still in the standings. But on the other side of that you have to keep trying to get better and make sure that you clean things up and you're ready to play in the tournament and play well. It's a combination. You still have an eye on maybe having a shot at the regular season but you also have to plan for the tournament."
Sophomore Taylor Hall
On fighting through a tough first half
"We knew our shots would start falling eventually if we just kept playing hard. We had to pick it up on defense and rebound and just do the little things when our shots weren't falling to hopefully get some momentum and get the lead."
On her rebounding in the first half
"I just crashed the boards. We work on that every day. The whole team is staring to really crash the offensive boards really well. We've been practicing that a lot and it's starting to come through."
Sophomore Alex Black
On the spark the bench brought
"I feel like we definitely try to get out there and make a play and hustle hard. Usually it plays off. I think it did and we kind of sparked it when we got out there tonight."
