Georgia Southern vs. Chattanooga
Chattanooga, Tenn. - McKenzie Arena
Feb. 13, 2012
Head Coach Wes Moore
"I felt like the first half, offensively, we played really well. We shot the ball much better than we had been. I think we had 10 assists and two turnovers so I thought we were playing at a very good level. It was nice to see us have a little bit of inside, outside going on. Defensively for the most part we did a nice job. In the second half we let them get some momentum. They knocked down a few threes. When you can do that it can turn a game around in a hurry. We let them back in it a little bit but you have to tip your hat off to Georgia Southern. They battled and they kept coming. Fortunately our kids were able to hold them off and finish it out. It was a good win and right now every game is critical. We can't afford any more hiccups. We had to take care of business here and now we have to go on the road."
On if Taylor Hall's 19 point and 15 rebound effort was the best game of her career:
"Probably so. She's had a sprained finger and she's had two fingers taped together for quite a while. No doubt it's affected her shot, it's on her shooting hand. Now they've cut back to just taping that one finger by itself. I think that's made a big difference and I think if nothing else, confidence wise, she's feeling better about it. She hit a couple of big threes but Taylor on the boards is unbelievable. Her and Kylie Lambert in particular go hard every night to the boards. I think 15 rebounds tonight is phenomenal. That gives you a big lift when you get a second and third look."
On the improvement in shooting from the previous game to tonight:
"It was great to see the shot fall and we haven't done that in a while. I still think this team has got it in them. I think we've got people that can knock down threes. A lot of times it's a mental thing. I think it's contagious. If you get a few people hitting threes then everybody else starts feeling it too. Hopefully we can make that happen these next two or three weeks of the season."
On if he discusses the SoCon race with his team:
"Sure. I want them to realize that we have a shot right now. But I also realize we have zero margin for error. We've got to take care of business and now we're going on the road. We've stumbled the last three out of four on the road. This team has got to show me they have the toughness to win road games. There is no doubt they have the talent to get it done but on the road you have to be tougher. We're going to have two big ones ahead. Western Carolina always plays us tough over there and obviously Samford. We have a big challenge ahead of us. We have four games left and we have to win all four of them to have any hope."
Sophomore Forward Taylor Hall
On if she was aware of her career night during the game:
"Not really. It's a team effort. They were doubling on Hood and she got me some open looks. But during the game I really didn't notice it."
On offensive rebounding:
"He always tries to instill that in us, to go to the offensive boards hard. Second chances anytime we can. It only leads to more points. I guess we've just gotten into a habit of going and the whole team is starting to do a good job."
Senior Forward Whitney Hood
On how the three point shooting helps her inside game:
"It helps a lot. We weren't scoring dominantly on the inside and they were knocking down shots from the outside. It was all a team effort tonight."
