Head Coach Wes Moore
Thoughts on the game
"It wasn't always the prettiest thing to watch. We had too many turnovers and missed too many free throws, but I'm proud of the effort we gave on the boards. Offensively, I thought we crashed really hard and ended up outscoring them 20-6 on second chance points. I thought that was probably the biggest factor in the game. Ashlen Dewart did a great job scoring inside and giving us a little bit of balance. Kylie Lambert was guarding Brittenham, who had 15 points at halftime. We put Kylie on her in the second half and she ended with 17 total with two in the second half. I thought Kylie did an excellent job defensively on her. We're going to have a quick turnaround with Furman coming in here Saturday. It's going to be a big challenge. We have to try to get them back up and hopefully do a better job knocking down free throws and taking care of the ball."
On going to Ashlen Dewart early
"We go into every game seeing how they are going to play us and make decisions based on that. She's a good place to start. You'd like to get the ball inside. We didn't shoot the ball very well tonight from the three point line, so it was critical that we get some scoring inside. She stepped up and did a great job of that. I thought she brought some energy. One time late in the game she ran the floor and finished a layup but she messed up because now I know she's capable of running the floor. I'll expect that same effort going the other way defensively. I thought she had an outstanding game with a double-double, she went to the boards and did a nice job."
On the play of the veterans down the stretch
"I want to play more people. I think we have some kids that can play. I'd like to leave them out there. When you are in a game that is single digits going down the stretch you give them a chance but you have to go with the people that you can trust. They are going to take care of the ball, they are going to box out and they are going to match up and not give up open looks. I ended up going back to the veterans. We've got to develop some more depth on the perimeter. I think we definitely have the talent to do that. At the same time, in these close games you have to earn it."
Ashlen Dewart, forward, junior
Thoughts on having so many scoring opportunities
"I think it just worked out that way. We knew we had an advantage in size on the inside. Once you create that advantage on the inside it opens shooters and everything else on the outside. Coach Moore saw that and acted on it."
Thoughts on getting the ball early in the game
"I would like to do that every game. It just depends on the game, who's hot, and how our team dynamics are. Tonight our guards did a really good job feeding me the ball and working to get me the ball."
Thoughts on how physical the game was on the inside
"It's part of the inside game and you have to expect that every time you play."
Kayla Christopher, guard, senior
Thoughts on holding Bittenham to only two points in the second half.
"I think she had three 3's in the first half and 15 points, but Kylie did a great job on guarding her in the second half. That was a big key in us being able to pull it out."
Thoughts on extending the Lady Mocs winning streak to 31 games over Wofford
"I was not aware we had won that many in a row over them. I knew the last couple of times they came here it had been a close game. They're a real scrappy team and real physical. I think it is just part of conference play, everybody is playing for the championship."
Thoughts on closing out the game
"I think at the end of the game having a lot of veterans is something that we feel comfortable with and have confidence in. Our veterans and our experience help us a lot when we get into situations like that."
