CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Lady Mocs senior second baseman Sara Poteat (Thomaston, Ga.) was named to the Capitol One Academic All-District First Team Thursday afternoon as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). It is the second time in her career the Thomaston, Ga., native has been named to the District 3 team – the first coming in 2012.
This is the third season in a row a Lady Moc has been named a first-team academic all-district member, beginning with Chattanooga legend Tiffany Baker in 2011. The highly-decorated second baseman is now qualified to be named an Academic All-American.
Academic first-team members are selected based on both their performance on the field and in the class room. Athletically, Poteat is batting .335 with a team-best 56 hits this season. The speedy infielder has stolen a team-high 17 bases and currently ranks third all-time at UTC with 32 stolen bases.
Academically, Poteat maintains a 3.8 GPA and was named to both the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and Dean’s List in the 2012-13 school year. Sara graduates Saturday with a degree in Exercise Science.
Poteat and the Lady Mocs wrap up their season this weekend as they travel to Burlington, N.C., to take on the Elon Phoenix in the three-game season finale. First pitch of Saturday’s double header is set for 1 p.m. with Sunday’s single game set to begin at 1 p.m. as well.
