Postgame Quotes vs. Tennessee

Chattanooga Women's Basketball Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga at Tennessee
Thompson-Boling Arena - Knoxville, Tenn.
Thursday - November 14, 2013

Head Coach Jim Foster
Thoughts on the game
“We were not aggressive in the second half. Our guards were not stopping penetration and they were going too deep defensively. We stopped moving the ball. We moved the ball great in the first half and got some good looks at the basket. And in the second half we had people not wanting responsibility for the ball, and we had people who started to try to do too much. That’s something we’re going to have to get squared away.”

On where the team can improve after the game
“We’ll see when we get into practice on Saturday. If I was a freshman, I would be thinking I have a chance. If I can be aggressive and come in playing very well, I have a chance to play. If they watched the game closely, they saw some people that didn’t compete at the level we need to compete at and can they fill that void. And the people who didn’t compete at that level need to figure out what they need to do to be a more competitive team for 40 minutes. It’s not about 20 minutes. We played 25 good minutes against Alabama and exchanged baskets for 15 minutes. You can’t cruise. You never cruise. I think we have to learn what 40 minutes means in a place like this.”

Thoughts on what he expects from his team at practice Saturday
“You find out how competitive your players are. And again, the young players have an opportunity. If they have a little swagger to them, a little competitiveness and they show up Saturday with an idea that they can take a job away, all of a sudden we have something to go with. If the upperclassmen show up thinking they have a job regardless of what happened, then we’ll see where we are. You play games in places like this and you play games like this for a reason. It brings out the good in you and it brings out the bad in you. You have to keep working with the good and change the bad.”

Thoughts on the Chattanooga/Tennessee series
“This series is good for both programs. We’re playing against very good players in a great environment, and that’s what this thing is supposed to be about because it gives your players a chance to measure themselves, see where they are and where they need to be.”

Ashlen Dewart, Forward, Senior

Thoughts on the game
“We were a different team during the second half. We’re not in any way proud of the way we played in the second. It was supposed to be a 0-0, brand new game when we came out of the locker room but we let them bully us. We didn’t step up.”

On who needed to step up in the second half
“I think it is a team mentality but I believe it’s the seniors’ place to step up and keep the team on the right track. It was out place to step up and we just didn’t do that tonight. I think that a team led by six seniors to lose like we did is unacceptable. We have to be adults and we have to be leaders. We are supposed to step up and fix our attitudes. We need to grow up, but tonight we were slapped in the face.”

Thoughts on the Chattanooga/Tennessee series
“You can never underestimate an opponent at this level. Tennessee knows everything about us and we know everything about Tennessee. We play each other every year and it’s always going to be a battle. No one is ever going to lie down and take a loss but we didn’t play our best tonight.”
