Postgame Quotes vs. Elon

Chattanooga Basketball Postgame Quotes
Elon at Chattanooga
McKenzie Arena – Chattanooga, Tenn.
Friday – Feb. 28, 2014

Head Coach Jim Foster
On the aggressiveness of Elon in the first half
They ran harder early.  That was their game plan early and once we adjusted our speed that wasn’t available to them.”

About the fast breaks in the second half for UTC:
“Our pressure extended their offense.  If your offense is extended, your ability to rebound is not as good.  Ashlen did a good job on the board and we were able to get out and run as a result.”

Passing on the fast breaks:
There are certain things we work on every day and we have a transition drill where we work 2-on-1, 4-on-3, 5-on-4 and 5-on-5 in sequence and it allows us to be pretty efficient in transition.”

The spark that got the team going:
I have this thing where you get stuck on a number, for whatever reason, you get stuck on a number.  You look up and you just think about stuff like “We’re stuck on 48.” and we just have to figure out a way to get off that number.  When you get off the number things start to flow.”

On how the point guards did tonight:
They did a better job, especially in transition…they were good.  Red, the shots she took were good shots, and her head was firmly on her shoulders.  The one 3-pointer that she missed in the first half did everything but go in, and then knocking down four or five from the foul line is a big deal.  Chelsea in transition made - except for that last cross over layup - made good decisions.”

About Aryanna Gilbert:
She’s talented, she just has to be aggressive.  I’ve been talking to her about being aggressive.  She certainly was today and when she is good things happen… good things happen.  She’s going to be a really good basketball player.”

Ashlen Dewart – Sr.-F
On getting it going in the second half:
I think it was moving the ball more. We were being individuals in the beginning and not playing team ball. We started to play as a team more towards the end of the first half and beginning of the second and that was the difference.”

Was it anything they did that made y’all take shots outside the realm of the offence?
I don’t think so I think it was use just trying to rush it and not moving the ball. It was us just not playing well instead of something they did.”

On your defense in the second half:
I think we definitely picked up our intensity on defense a lot more and communicating a lot more. That was a big difference same as playing team ball offensively on both sides of the court.”

Better ball movement in the second half:
“We really like to get the ball out and running the first half we didn’t do that to well and the second half we did that a lot better. We really kicked it in gear and our guards did a lot better job at getting out and running the lanes.”

On Senior Day on Sunday:
“It’s hard for me to sit back and think about it right now because we are so focused on what we want for the season. I guess it hasn’t really hit me but it definitely a good feeling to know I will walk out there with people I worked hard with for so long. It will be a fun day.”

Taylor Hall – Sr.-F
On trying to take over the game:
I just knew someone needed to get us going and it happened to come to me and I saw I had good opportunities to get to the basket and I took advantage of them. It kind of happened to fall in my hands with open lanes.”

On generating your won energy:
Yeah, tonight Elon just really came out aggressive and we didn’t match it. It kind of got us down a little bit and we needed to overcome that in order to get back in the game.

On Senior Day on Sunday:
“I am not the person to ask because I am not the most emotional person but it’s crazy that it is already here. It’s been a great ride and hopefully we can continue to push to the postseason.”
