Two members of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Track & Field/Cross Country teams were named to the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-District® teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, today.
Lucas Cotter and Teghan Henderson represent the Mocs on the men’s and women’s first teams, respectively. To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Cotter has been slowed by injuries most of the season, but still managed to advance to the finals of the 1500M at the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships in April. A perennial All-SoCon runner throughout his career, he carries a 3.80 GPA while working on a Master’s Degree in UTC’s College of Business.
Henderson was a sophomore for the Cross Country team, earning All-American honors at the NCAA Championships in the fall. She was also the SoCon Champion and the SoCon Cross Country Runner of the Year. A redshirt freshman on the track, she set a SoCon record in the 10000M and won the 5K to take home SoCon Freshman of the Year honors at the outdoor championships in April. She has a 3.87 GPA as a Business major.
First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in June.
