CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's cross country team's decisive victory at the UTC PowerAde Invitational Saturday helped propel the Mocs up one spot to fifth in the South Region according to the United State Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Florida State holds the top spot in the region rankings followed by Florida, Georgia and Alabama. The Mocs round out the top five and are ranked ahead of Tennessee (7), Mississippi (8), Mississippi State (9), Georgia Tech (11) and Auburn (14). Middle Tennessee, ranked 15th in the South Region, finished runner up to the Mocs Friday night at the opening event.
Senior Chris Berry (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) led the Mocs to the win, placing second, followed by sophomore Lucas Cotter (Collierville, Tenn.) in third. Chattanooga placed four of its five scoring runners in the top 10 with Joshue Vasquez (Kingsport, Tenn.) wrapping up the Mocs scoring in 12th.
The men's and women's teams will head to Nashville, Tenn., this weekend for the Vanderbilt Commodore Classic. The men will run an 8-kilometer race while the women's distance will be 5K. The race will take place at Percy Warner Park at the Vaughn's Gap Cross Country Course. The men will start at 9:45 a.m. Eastern with the women's race to follow at 10:30 a.m. Eastern.
