The Mocs, led by senior Chris Berry (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), will put their No. 5 South Region ranking on the line this weekend at one of the South's most prestigious cross country meets. Nearly 90 teams will compete in three divisions with the Mocs in the Gold Division.
2010 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year Lucas Cotter (Collierville, Tenn.) has been strong for the Mocs through the first two meets. The redshirt sophomore posted a Top 10 finish at the Vanderbilt Commodore Classic. Fellow sophomore Nathan Wanuch (Mississauga, Ontario) also had a strong showing in the Commodore Classic with a No. 12 finish.
Shoring up the lineup for Head Coach Bill Gautier will be sophomore Mark Cole (McKenzie, Tenn.) and freshman Drew Austell (Eads, Tenn.).
Last season, the Mocs suffered several injuries due to the large number of participants in the race. Several runners fell on a turn and were trampled. Four UTC athletes hit the pitch including current volunteer assistant coach David Moore and Wanuch who both got up to finish the race. Cotter required several stitches and was unable to finish while junior Joshue Vasquez (Kingsport, Tenn.) continued with a severe cut. Vasquez will not be competing this weekend and is likely out for the season.
Results will be available at alltraxtiming and GoMocs.com following the race.
