Chattanooga Lady Mocs Basketball Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga vs. Samford
The McKenzie Arena - Chattanooga, Tenn.

Chattanooga Head Coach Wes Moore
Thoughts on game
"You have to take your hats off to Samford. They came in here and did a great job in making it tough for us to get inside in the first half. I think at their place we forced 23 turnovers, and tonight we only forced 11. They did a much better job. I told our kids that we have to be careful and not just assume that we'll win just because we're at home. We've had a nice streak here, but you got to bring it every night. So we got to be careful of that. I think it was an example, too, in the second half of a senior who just refused to lose. I thought Kayla Christopher, we talked at halftime, and she had only taken one shot. I just told that you're going to have to get shots up. People in the league, they watch film. They know what she can do. So it's not easy. They're going to put somebody on her, and make it difficult for her to get looks. I thought she stepped up, and was very determined to get it done. I thought it was the difference in the ballgame to honest. Taylor Hall, 10 boards. Tatianna Jackson again giving us a big lift off the bench, making plays and turning turnovers into layups. Several people came to the rescue on a tough night. At least from where I was, it was like getting a root canal. It wasn't a whole lot of fun."
Thoughts on Kayla taking long threes
"She's got the green light when she crosses half court. That's the only stipulation. Again, that's not an ideal situation, but when it's hard to get a shot off. If you've got an opening, take it. In her case, yes. She's shooting the ball extremely well this year, from the three point line in particular. We're in one of these stretches where we have five games in ten days. It's not real conducive to working on things that you need to get better at. Obviously, we got to keep working on ways to get her shots. We got to keep working on our posts in doing a better job in getting big and sealing. Then our guards getting on the ball, and making the correct pass. We got lots of things that we need to work on. They dug deep and found a way to get it done. So I'm proud of them from that standpoint."
Thoughts on going small in the last ten minutes
"To be honest with you, it was more about defense. Obviously, if they were scoring every time down the court, you would overlook the defense a little bit more. Taylor Reece is a great player that we tried to recruit here, and she was eating us up. So we went small, and tried to keep the ball out of her hands. It's tough, but they had three kids who were scoring well for them. You got to try to shut those folks down, and the best way to do that is not let them get the ball."
Thoughts on guarding Taylor Reece last game and tonight's
I'll be honest with you. Down there, she just got in the zone. I don't know how else to explain it. She was 15 for 18 or something like that down there. It was something unbelievable. Down there I thought we did a decent job of a few times having a hand up, and she still just found a way to knock them down. You just have nights like that. Kylie and Tatianna were on her most of the night, but a lot of people had to switch on to her and did a great job. It was a nice effort from that standpoint."
Kayla Christopher, senior, guard
Thoughts on her play
"I didn't really get a lot of good looks in the first half and coach told me to be more aggressive in the second half. Once you hit one, you get more confidence and it's all good from there.
Thoughts on her 20+ foot shots
"Honestly, I don't even realize it in the moment. When you're in the zone, sometimes you're feeling good and don't realize how far out you actually are."
On the Lady Mocs play off the bench
"I think we have a really deep roster and so it works to our advantage. On any given night, anyone can step up and I think this show how much of a balanced team we really are."
Thoughts at the half
"We went into halftime knowing we had let some of their players get some good open looks, but it was more about what we needed to do for the second half. We held them less than 30 points in the first half, which we wanted to do. I think we just needed to come out in the second half more patient on offense and get good open looks.
Taylor Hall, junior, forward
On the difference between the first and second half
"We knocked down some big shots, which gets us going on both ends of the floor. I think we stepped up on defense as well and took out some of their hot players, which made a difference, as well. We know we had to step on defense and play more up tempo. We went with it and it worked out pretty well"
Thoughts on what the team has to improve on
"I think we still have room for improvement. Like on defense, getting to their good players, knocking down our shots, and running the plays like we need to. I think there's a little bit of work to do and we'll get it together for the tournament."
