The Lady Mocs look to improve on a 6-10-2 overall mark from last season. UTC returns 12 letter winners and seven starters that bring back 25 of the 31 goals scored last season. Leading the way is senior forward Becca Smith (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), a 2011 All-Southern Conference selection.
Smith led the SoCon in scoring last season with 37 points on 16 goals and five assists. She was No. 6 in the nation in goals per game and ranked No. 11 in the country in points per game. She currently is third on UTC's all time list with 74 points (30 goals and 14 assists) in her career.
Also back from last season is sophomore midfielder Crystal Mackezyk (Columbia, Tenn.). She scored 14 points on six goals and two assists while earning a spot on the SoCon All-Freshman team in 2011. Senior defender Tayler Shelby (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and junior midfielder Kelly Crew (Brisbane, Australia) serve as the team captains. Shelby started all 18 games on the back line last year while Crew tallied two assists and played every game.
Kyzer heads into his 13th season at UTC. The 2003 SoCon Coach of the Year is in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach.
Tennessee Temple competes in the National Christian College Athletic Association. The Crusaders are guided by first year head coach Emmanuel Awotula.
Tennessee Tech is coming off a 5-13-1 season. The Golden Eagles start the season with a home match against East Tennessee State on Friday. TTU posted an 8-0 win over Tennessee Wesleyan in exhibition action on Aug. 11.
