CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule last Friday at Gardner-Webb and will kick off the Southern Conference slate on September 21 at Davidson.

The Mocs are 2-3-1 with a season-opening win over Tennessee Temple at home and road win over Gardner-Webb, both by shutout. UTC tied Lipscomb 2-2 in a double-overtime tie in Nashville.

In the Southern Conference standings, the Mocs are second in the league in shots per game (16.50) points (30), goals (10), goals per game (1.67), assists (10) and lead the SoCon in assists per game with 1.67 an outing.

Senior Becca Smith (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) is third in the SoCon for shots per game with 4.17 and goals with three through six games. She is tied with teammate Hannah Wyatt (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) for fourth with six points. Wyatt is tied for the league lead with four assists. Freshman Skylar Brewer (Farragut, Tenn.) is sixth in the SoCon standings with two goals and sophomore Crystal Mackezyk (Columbia, Tenn.) is fourth in the league for shots per game with 3.33 an outing.

Smith is making her way up the career charts at UTC. Her three goals and six points this season moved her to second on the points list with 80 and the goals list with 33. She trails Diana Jallo (2002-05) by seven points and four goals passing former teammate Donna-Kay Henry (2008-11) on both lists.

The NCAA season statistics were released this week with three Chattanooga players making their way onto the list. Wyatt is ranked 22nd among all NCAA Division I players with 0.67 assists per game and 28th in total assists with four. Smith, averaging 0.5 goals per game, is ranked 138th in the NCAA. Freshman keeper Lauren Thomas (Germantown, Tenn.) is 219th for goalie minutes played racking up 560 minutes in the net. The Mocs are 108th of 300 teams for scoring offense and 122nd in shutout percentage (0.333).

UTC Head Coach J.D. Kyzer brought in a large rookie class and the dividends are paying off. Seven freshman have made their way into the box scores. Thomas has two shutouts, Wyatt leads the team with four assists and has one goal while Brewer is second on the team with two goals and has one assist. Loryn Queen (Lanesville, Ind.), Clare Latham (Cordova, Tenn.) and Logan Higgins (Louisville, Ky.) each have a goal and an assist while Melanie Arredondo (Tampico, Mexico) each have one assist.

Chattanooga will take the weekend off and return to action September 21 at Davidson to open SoCon play.
