CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team fell 5-0 to Elon Friday night at Finley Stadium. The Mocs are 3-11-1 overall and 1-8-0 in Southern Conference action. The Phoenix even out their record at 6-6-6 on the year and 4-1-4 in league play.
Elon's Catherine Brinkman scored both goals in the first half while three different players connected with the net in the second. Brinkman's first goal came at the 28:34 mark of the game off the foot of Mel Insley with her second coming less than a minute later on an assist from Nicole Dennion.
Chattanooga keeper Lauren Thomas (Germantown, Tenn.) recorded five saves on the night with sophomore Crystal Mackezyk recording three shots with one on goal, a header at the net on a corner kick that was picked out of the air by Elon's keeper in the second half.
The Phoenix got an unassisted goal from Olivia Mackey early in the second half to go up 3-0 while Dennion added the fourth goal for Elon with an assist from Jennifer Mcgorty with 29 minutes to play. Taylor Glenn wrapped up the Phoenix scoring with a goal assisted by Raychel Diver at the 65:04 mark of the game.
The Mocs suffered several key injuries in the game including senior Becca Smith (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) who was kept out the entire second half and senior Jordan Middleton (Ooltewah, Tenn.) who also came off the field late in the latter period.
Chattanooga will host UNCG Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Finley Stadium. The Mocs will honor their five seniors, Jordan Middleton, Tayler Shelby, Becca Smith, Kelsey Swann and Lauren Wilson, prior to the start.
