All four members of the Mocs men's tennis team advanced to the second round of the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regionals in Memphis, Tenn., today. Chattanooga posted three singles wins and a pair of doubles victories on the first day of the tournament.
Senior Jackson Tresnan (Apopka, Fla.) had a big three set win over Xavier's Adam Krull. He won the first 6-4, but dropped the second 7-5. He advanced with a 6-4 win in the third and will take on No. 17 seed Austin Siegel of Louisville at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Senior Manuel Barroetavena (Buenos Aires, Argentina) had a (7-5, 6-3) win over Eastern Kentucky's Florian Graskamp in the first round. He will take on No. 1 seed Anthony Rossi of Kentucky at 9:30 a.m. in Saturday's second round.
Senior Ankit Chopra (Chandigrah, India) was impressive in the first round with his (6-2, 6-0) win over EKU's Jan Dombrowski. He moves on to face No. 17 seed Johnny Grimal of Mempis at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Senior Roberto Vieira is seeded 17th in the tournament and had a first round bye. He will face MTSU's Ettore Zito in the second round at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow.
Both of the Mocs doubles teams had a win today. Tresnan and Barroetavena defeated EKU's Graskamp and Joao Maio (8-4). They lost in the second round to the third seed in the draw, Tennessee's Connor Glennon and David O'Hare (8-3).
Chopra and Vieira beat Austin Peay's Sean Bailey and Aleksas Tverijonas (8-6) in the first round. They lost to the No. 4 seed Rhys Johnson and Ryan Lipman (8-3) of Tennessee in the second round.
