Moctoberfest is a month-long celebration of Chattanooga Mocs
men's basketball. It includes historical moments, social media interactions and
introduction to UTC's freshmen among the myriad of video tributes and stories.
Day 31 focuses on a one of the favorite moments in the
program's history...the 2004 win at Tennessee. The video highlights linked above
tell the story along with comments from Head Coach John Shulman and Assistant
Coach Casey Long who was a starter on that squad.
Mindaugas Katelynas scored 17 points and grabbed nine boards in the
win. Steve Cherry added 10 points. The Vols were led by C.J. Watson with 19
points, while Scooter McFadgon chipped in 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The win was the first over Tennessee on the hardcourt since 1925.
And it was in a game that went down to the wire.
Leading 69-68 in the closing seconds, the Mocs had to hold on the
defensive end for the win. Chris Brown gave UTC the lead on a three-pointer
with 1:18 to play...it was the last basket of the game for either team.
McFadgon drove the lane and put up a floater that missed. Ricky
Hood grabbed the rebound and was fouled with two seconds remaining. Hood missed
two free throws, but UT's full-court attempt was awry giving the Mocs the
well-earned win.
