Two members of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football squad were named to the Capital One Academic All-District team, announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Senior Adam Miller and sophomore Davis Tull both took home honors for the Mocs.
The Capital One Academic All-District Teams are made up of student-athletes from eight regions across the country. UTC is in District 3 that includes all Division I programs (FBS & FCS) in Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia.
Nominees must be in their second year at an institution and have at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point-average. CoSIDA members then vote on the all-district teams, based on academic and athletic performance.
Miller is the first Moc to be a two-time honoree after earning a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District team last season. A native of Cohutta, Ga., Miller has a 3.78 g.p.a. as a Construction Management major. He has started a team-high 41 games for the Mocs at right tackle, including 27-straight. He is a two-time Academic All-Southern Conference honoree and a member of the 2011 FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team.
Tull is one of four sophomores on the District 3 team. A native of Knoxville, Tenn., he currently leads the SoCon and is No. 4 in the nation with 10.0 sacks as a defensive end. He also leads the league with 13.5 tackles-for-loss. Tull carries a 3.43 g.p.a. in Health and Human Performance.
Both Miller and Tull are now eligible to become the Mocs first Academic All-Americans in football. First-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
