EL PASO, Texas --- Chattanooga Mocs senior Steven Fox
(Hendersonville, Tenn.) ended up tied for 16th at the Western Refining College
All-American Classic at El Paso Country Club. Fox tied Oklahoma's Will Kropp at
five-under par 208.
The duo ended up nine strokes behind this year's
champion, Kevin Penner of UNLV. Penner shot rounds of 65, 66 and 68 for his
14-under 199. That provided him with a one-shot win over Sebastian Cappelen
(Arkansas) and two strokes clear of defending champion Corey Whitsett
(Alabama).
Fox opened the event shooting 70 and 67 over the opening
36 holes Monday. That placed him tied for seventh. A level par 71 dropped him
into his tie for 16th.
He posted 13 birdies over his 54 holes with five in the
final round. Fox added 34 pars to counteract six bogeys and one double. He had
a perfect second round with four birdies and 14 pars.
Fox gained entry in the 23-man field by virtue of his
United States Amateur win in August. The field is comprised almost entirely of
2012 All-Americans who are still playing collegiately.
The Mocs return to the course in February 22-24 for the Redstone
Collegiate Championship in Humble, Texas. The 54-hole event is played on the
Redstone Golf Club Tournament Course which is the site of the PGA Tour's Shell
Houston Open.
