SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior women's basketball player Kayla Christopher (Oliver Springs, Tenn.) was named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for November 28, the league office announced today.
Christopher, a four-year starter for the Lady Mocs, scored eight points in last week's win over Portland State at the Saint Mary's Thanksgiving Classic. With those eight points, she became the 25th member of the Lady Mocs' 1,000-Point Club. The next day she made seven 3-pointers against Saint Mary's - just missing the school record by one - while scoring a season-high 27 points. Kayla has climbed to 21st on the all-time scoring list with 1,027 points. She is also fourth all-time at UTC - and No. 6 in the history of the Southern Conference - with 178 career 3-pointers.
The Oliver Springs, Tenn., native holds a 3.56 GPA in Health and Exercise Science. She is Chattanooga's second Student-Athlete of the Week this year joining men's cross country runner Nathan Wanuch (Mississauga, Ontario).
