The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has a pair of matches on tap for the weekend. The Lady Mocs host Middle Tennessee on Friday before traveling to Lipscomb on Saturday. Live scoring is available for the MTSU match with links on the women's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.
The Lady Mocs are led by senior Jenna Nurik (Roswell, Ga.) who is off to a 2-0 start at No. 1. She has led UTC (2-0, 0-0 SoCon) to wins over Kennesaw State (6-1) and Belmont (7-0) in the opening weekend. Sophomore Kaylene Chadwell (Franklin, Tenn.) is 1-1 at No. 2 while junior Alexa Flynn (Memphis, Tenn.) is 2-0 at No. 3.
Freshman Kayla Jones (Memphis, Tenn.) leads the team with a 13-2 overall singles mark and is 2-0 in the spring at No. 4. Freshman Kelsey Coots (Huntsville, Ala.) has played the No. 5 spot the first two matches and has a pair of wins. Sophomore Claire Mulyadi (Semarang, Indonesia) holds down the No. 6 position and also has two wins.
Nurik and Chadwell are 2-0 at No. 2 doubles while Flynn and freshman Katie Polk (Woodstock, Ga.) are also undefeated in the spring at No. 3. Coots and Jones split their two matches at No. 1.
The Blue Raiders are 1-2 in spring action after sweeping Lipscomb (7-0) on Jan. 25. The two losses were to Akron (3-4) and Penn State (2-5) in Akron, Ohio, on Jan. 18-19. Match time against MTSU is set for 6:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) at the Hixson Racquet Club.
MTSU won last year's match in a tight 4-3 battle. Nurik and Mulyadi both had singles wins in last year's contest. UTC swept the doubles point, but lost four singles matches in the dual. It was the 13th-straight loss to MTSU in the series. The last time UTC defeated the Blue Raiders was and 8-1 win in 1999.
Lipscomb (0-3, 0-0 ASUN) is looking for its first win in three matches this season. The Lady Bison have lost to Memphis (0-7), MTSU (0-7) and Evansville (1-6). UTC faces Lipscomb on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 7:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) at the Richland Country Club in Nashville, Tenn.
UTC swept last year's match, a 7-0 win at the Hixson Racquet Club in the season opener on Jan. 28, 2012. Nurik and Chadwell both had singles wins and they also teamed for a doubles victory.
Head coach Jeff Clark is in the sixth season of his second stint as head coach at UTC. He also led the Lady Mocs from 1999-01. He is three wins shy of 100 (97-84) in his career as the head coach of the Lady Mocs.
