CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Lady Mocs softball team (21-16, 6-3 SoCon) hosts the Georgia Southern Eagles (18-20, 5-3 SoCon) this weekend for a three-game set at Frost Stadium. The series opens up with a double-header Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. with the second game following at 4 p.m., and the weekend wraps up Sunday at 2 p.m. with a single game.

The Lady Mocs hold a 53-22 advantage over the Eagles all-time despite three losses to GSU in 2012. Last season, Chattanooga was able to claim one win over the Eagles in Statesboro, Ga., but Georgia Southern was able to get the best of UTC in the regular season and once in the SoCon Tournament with a 5-2 win over Chattanooga.

The Lady Mocs are coming off a three-game sweep of Western Carolina in Cullowhee, N.C., where Chattanooga seemed to find its offense over the weekend. Senior Kasey Tydingco (Fairfield, Calif.), the reigning SoCon Player of the Week, batted .600 last week and blasted three home runs over four games to take the team lead with a .371 batting average. Along with offensive support from senior Sara Poteat (Thomaston, Ga.), who is batting .368 on the season with 12 stolen bases, and freshman Sam Taylor (Chickamauga, Ga.) heating up at the plate, the Lady Mocs need the pitching to fall in line.

Sophomore Taylor Deason (Clarksville, Tenn.) carries the load for Chattanooga with 14 wins and a 3.41 ERA while freshman Kaisey Carson (Indianapolis, Ind.) has made 18 appearances and a 3.38 ERA. Chattanooga also turns to freshman Rachel Albritton (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) who posts a 5-3 record and a team-best 2.36 ERA in 20 appearances in the circle with 11 starts.

The Eagles are led by junior Shelby Morrill, leading the Eagles with a .348 average and 39 hits. Ranking second with a .268 average and a team-high 26 RBI is senior Tabby Douberley. Chattanooga pitching will also have to keep an eye on Eagles’ junior Kourtny Thomas as she is slugging an even .500 while leading Georgia Southern with eight home runs.

The Eagles pitching staff is headed by Sarah Purvis as she commands nine wins and a 2.27 ERA. The Eagle ace has tossed three shutouts and has appeared in 23 games for Georgia Southern. GSU’s Brooke Red is 6-3 with a 2.32 ERA in seven starts, but Chattanooga is more likely to see Allie Miles in a game-two start. The junior has made 12 starts on the season and boasts a 3.50 ERA.

After wrapping up the weekend in Chattanooga, the Lady Mocs travel to Charleston, S.C., to take on the College of Charleston in the following weekend.
