spacer, the official website of the Athletics Department at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, continued its strong upward trend, based on the 2012-13 traffic numbers that were released today.  The online home of the Mocs saw over six million pageviews and welcomed more than 850,000 unique visitors over the last fiscal year. 

UTC began tracking its online traffic in 2007-08 and has actively worked to grow its numbers at an exponential rate.  UTC’s pageviews are up 60% from last year alone, while the 854,075 unique visitors represent a 49% increase from 2011-12.

“We are always looking at ways to expand our reach and our online presence is definitely a priority,” stated Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics David Blackburn.  “We have a lot of great stories to tell, and a well-organized and attractive website gives you an avenue to tell it. 

It is clear that our fans are using, and its growth is very encouraging.  The challenge now becomes to identify ways to keep it moving forward.  The goal is to maintain a strong outlet that we can use to deliver our message to all of our constituents, as well as creating a platform that has the potential to generate significant advertising revenue.” 

When measuring traffic, a quick overview of the terms used is need to clearly understand how many people are visiting  A pageview is defined as a request to load a single HTML file of an internet site.  One user can record numerous pageviews during a single visit to a site.’s growth in pageviews is shown in the chart below. 

The 60% increase in pageviews over the last 12 months is the largest single-year increase on record.  January 2013 set a single-month record with 779,444. actually broke its annual pageview record in February 2013, with more than four months remaining in the fiscal year.

A unique visitor is one user who visits a website in a specified amount of time, usually a month. started with 293,000 unique visitors in 2007-08 and has nearly tripled that number to its current traffic.  See below for the growth trend in unique visitors over the last six years.

Unique visitors to are up in 13 consecutive quarters and 19 of the last 20 months.  Six of the 12 months in the 2012-13 fiscal year beat the previous monthly record for unique visitors, with January 2013 establishing a new benchmark of 99,005.  This was 23% higher than the previous record.

MocsVision produced 723 pieces of Video on Demand (VOD) for in 2012-13.  Add that to the over 100 live events produced for and the result is a record 75,849 video views last year.  This is a 54% increase from the previous high of 49,131 set in 2011-12.  The growth in video views is available in the chart below. 

VOD accounted for 39,939 of the more than 75,000 views, while live viewing was up 83%.  The number of fans watching UTC’s online streaming of its home events has increased in each of the last eight quarters.  UTC streams every home football, men’s and women’s basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball and wrestling home event that is not picked up by the Southern Conference broadcast schedule.
