MOCS HOST FRANCIS MARION; THE CITADEL. SENIORS TO BE HONORED SUNDAY IN HOME FINALE
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s soccer team will step out of Southern Conference action briefly Friday evening to host Francis Marion before resuming league play Sunday at home against The Citadel. The Mocs will honor its three seniors prior to Sunday’s kick off.
Friday’s matchup kicks off at 7 p.m. at Finley Stadium while Sunday’s match begins at 2 p.m. Seniors Andria Aurand, Kelly Crew and Taylor Mangrum will be honor prior to kickoff.
CHATTANOOGA (4-9-0, 0-6-0 SoCon)
The Mocs are 4-3 in non-conference play and looking to end a six-game losing skid this weekend. UTC posted wins over Tennessee Temple (5-0), UNC Asheville (2-1), South Carolina State (5-1) and Tennessee Tech (2-1). In their last outing UTC fell 1-0 to Western Carolina in overtime and dropped close decisions to Davidson (3-2) and Georgia Southern (2-1).
Junior Crystal Mackezyk (Columbia, Tenn.) missed the last two games with an injury and is day-to-day. She leads the team with five goals and three assists (13 points). Sophomore Clare Latham (Cordova, Tenn.) has started all 13 games for Chattanooga and is second on the team in scoring with four goals and three assists on 16 shots taken. Freshman Monica Speth (Janesville, Wisc.) is third on the team with three goals and three assists. Adding two goals apiece are sophomores Melanie Arredondo (Tampico, Mexico), Loryn Queen (Lanesville, Ind.) and Hannah Wyatt (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.). Wyatt, however, suffered a season-ending injury against Davidson. Senior Taylor Mangrum (Franklin, Tenn.) has given up 24 of Chattanooga’s 38 goals against though 11 games and nine starts while making 72 saves (.750 saves percentage).
FRANCIS MARION (0-13-0)
The Patriots compete in Division I independent and have yet to see the win column this season having fallen in all 13 contests and are 0-6 against Southern Conference opponents. In its last outing, Francis Marion fell 4-3 to Davidson. Chanel Harris has started all 13 games and leads the team with three goals and one assist. Yasmin Bunter, second on the team in scoring, has one goal and a team-high four assists. Taylor O’Berry has 76 saves on the year and given up 37 goals for a 2.95 goals against average and a .673 saves percentage.
CHATTANOOGA vs. FRANCIS MARION
This will be the first meeting between the two schools.
THE CITADEL (3-8-2, 1-5-0 SoCon)
The Bulldogs defeated Elon 2-1 for its lone Southern Conference victory while falling to Furman (7-0), Wofford (2-0), UNCG (5-3), Davidson (3-0) and Georgia Southern (3-2). Their other two wins include non-conference victories against Jacksonville State (3-1) and Charleston Southern (2-1). Mariana Garcia has a team-high six goals while Lea Raedle leads the team with six assists and one goal. Ruth Leiva has three goals and Nicole Levermann has two goals. Keeper Naomi Carter has made 118 saves, a league-high and given up 37 scores.
CHATTANOOGA vs. THE CITADEL
Chattanooga leads the series 7-3-1 including a 3-2 win on the road last year. The Citadel posted three straight wins beginning in 2009 with a 1-0 victory in Charleston followed by a 2-0 win on the road and a 2-1 topping in Chattanooga. The lone tie was a 1-1 double overtime affair in 2006 at the Bulldogs’ home field. Last year Kelsey Swann put in a pair of goals with assist from Loryn Queen on both while the game winner came off the foot of Becca Smith on a penalty kick.
