The Chattanooga Mocs wrestling team will celebrate its 2009 Southern Conference Championship with its year-end banquet on Saturday, May 2. The event is set to take place at Vulcan Park in Chattanooga, Tenn., at 1:00 p.m. and will be hosted by head coach Chris Bono and members of the UTC wrestling squad.
Chattanooga continued to dominate the SoCon with its fifth consecutive title this season and 24th overall. Six Mocs won individual crowns and qualified for the NCAA Championships. Led by a group of underclassmen, UTC fielded one of the youngest teams in school history this year. Chattanooga competed with six freshmen, a sophomore and just two juniors and a senior. Three of the six freshmen walked away with individual SoCon titles
Not only did UTC take the team title, the Mocs also swept the postseason SoCon awards. Bono was named the SoCon Coach of the Year. Junior Cody Cleveland earned the Wrestler of the Year and Jason McCroskey was tagged the Freshman of the Year.
The banquet is a free event and open to the public. Vulcan Park is located on Shallowford Road near the Chattanooga Airport and next to the new FedEx facility.
