Jay Harris joined the Chattanooga Mocs athletics
department in the newly-created role of Director of Major Gifts in July 2011.
His initial focus is on the completion of the golf Player Development Complex
which opened in December 2009, while also increasing support for the
nationally-renowned men’s and women’s golf programs.
Jay came from Troy University where he was a graduate
assistant for external relations from 2009-2011 while completing his MBA. His main duties were to the assist the
director of development/annual giving in a variety of areas including the
Trojan Warrior Campaign and Trojan Seat Licensing program.
He also helped plan and coordinate special events such as
Trojan Football Appreciation Night and the Larry Blakeney Golf Classic. He was
also active working in major gifts and ticketing. He assisted with capital
campaign and prospect research as well as handling student ticket sales for the
2010 GMAC and 2010 New Orleans Bowl games.
Harris also got his undergraduate degree in marketing at
Troy where he was a student-athlete. He
was a stalwart on the Trojans’ golf team with one win included in six top five
and 13 top 10 career finishes. He ranked
as the No. 2 freshman and sophomore in the Sun Belt Conference and ranked among
the nation’s leaders in fairways hit and greens in regulation during the 2007
season.
He is known as a huge advocate of junior golf. Along with teaching at many junior clinics
alongside his mentor Chris Burns, Harris served on the tournament committee for
the Press Thornton Future Masters (2006-2009).
A native of Killen, Ala., Jay is single and resides in Hixson,
Tenn.
