Reed Inducted into Greater Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame

Reed was the 28th coach in the nation to reach 1,000 collegiate wins.

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball head coach Frank Reed was inducted into the Greater Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame Monday. In his 15th season with the Mocs, Reed is a six-time Southern Conference Coach of the Year with nine SoCon regular-season titles, eight SoCon Tournament crowns and eight NCAA Regional appearances.

With over 1,000 collegiate wins, he was only the 28th coach in the nation to reach that milestone. Reed boasts a 548-326 record at UTC.

Reed has coached in the Scenic City for 25 years. Prior to Chattanooga, he started the women's softball program at Chattanooga State. The Tigers clinched eight conference and state championships and seven regular season titles. In his last eight seasons, he was named Conference Coach of the Year seven times.

A number of individuals in this year's class have ties to the Mocs. Susan Carson was a part of two NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship teams in 1977 and 1978, while Mike Craft was a four-year letter winner on the wrestling team in the early 1970's. Susan Crownover was the SoCon Freshman of the Year in 1987 for basketball, and the late Mose Payne III played tennis and basketball at UTC in the 1950's. Elaine Peigen played volleyball for the Mocs from 1980-82, and Gary Stitch was a standout on Chattanooga's 1977 NCAA Division II National Championship team.

UTC was also represented with the Athlete of the Year Awards. Lanni Marchant was named the Female Athlete of the Year. She ran cross country and track for the Mocs from 2003-06. All-American Jacob Huesman was selected as the Male Athlete of the Year after playing football for Chattanooga from 2011-15, helping the Mocs to three back-to-back SoCon Championships.

The inductees and award recipients were honored at the 50th anniversary Greater Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame Banquet Monday at the Chattanooga Convention Center.
