Craine Named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week

Senior team captain holds a 3.61 GPA as a Health and Human Performance Major.
Senior running back Derrick Craine is the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Sept. 21-27, the league office announced Wednesday.
Craine, a 2015 Academic All-American and two-time Academic All-Southern Conference honoree, rushed for a career-high 222 yards on 23 carries with two touchdowns as Chattanooga topped Samford, 41-21, Saturday afternoon.
Craine's 222 yards was the third-highest single-game total in school history. The senior was especially efficient in the second half, carrying 14 times for 194 yards after intermission. He added two receptions for nine yards in the win.
Craine leads the Southern Conference and ranks 10th nationally with 114.3 yards per game. With Saturday's performance, he moved into eighth place on the school's all-time rushing list and now has 2,371 yards for his career. The McDonough, Ga., native was also named this week's Southern Conference offensive player of the week.
In the classroom, Craine boasts a 3.61 grade point average as a health and human performance major.
The SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week recognizes individuals in the conference for their performance in both the classroom and competition. To be eligible, student-athletes must have at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA and be in their championship season of competition.
