Mocs Host 34th Annual Baras Tournament This Weekend

The annual UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic takes place at the Champions Club on Friday & Saturday.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's and women's tennis teams host the 34th annual Steve Baras Fall Classic at the Champions Club this weekend.   This is annually one of the top fall tournaments in the region and provides quality tests as both programs prepare for championship play in the spring.

This is a two-day tournament on Friday, Sept. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 1.  Action begins at 8:30 a.m. (E.D.T.) both days.  The men welcome Mercer, Kennesaw State and Eastern Kentucky to a format that includes eight singles division and four doubles in a round-robin format.  The women are using a mixed format that also includes round-robin competition with Jacksonville State, MTSU, Mercer, Southern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky and Kennesaw State coming to town.

"We are very excited to host our own tournament," stated new women's head coach Chad Camper. "We were able to bring quality teams in and better improve all our programs.

"What makes this tournament even better, is hosting it with the men's program. We are a tennis family, and it will be exciting to cheer for one another."

Admission is free at the Champions Club, located at 3400 Lupton Drive in Chattanooga.  It is at the back of the Rivermont Park Complex on the banks of the Tennessee River.

"Coach Camper and I are very excited about hosting the Baras at one of the premier tennis facilities in the South," stated men's head coach Carlos Garcia.  "Having both men's and women's teams at the same venue produces an incredible atmosphere, so we encourage fans to come out and support both programs this Friday and Saturday."

Complete results are posted on GoMocs.com at the conclusion of each day.  A full schedule of events for the women is available below, along with the draws and times for the men's format.
