Men's Basketball Quotes - Wofford

2016-17 Chattanooga Mocs Basketball
Post-Game Quotes vs. Wofford
Chattanooga, Tenn. – Jan. 5 – McKenzie Arena

Matt McCall, Head Coach

Opening statement after 77-66 win over Wofford.
"Throughout the course of a season, there's a lot of ups and a lot of downs. It's been a long week for us and our basketball team from the standpoint of getting back from Christmas and our lengthy road trip. I was really proud of our guys because it was not going well out of the gate. We were down 11, 22-11, and the first half ends 36-27 with our advantage. The last nine minutes of the first half we allowed just five points. That showed me that we really locked in and our guys, defensively, did a tremendous job. They (Wofford) only made two three's in the first half and that's something you have to do against them. I was proud of our team, it was a good quality win. This team is getting everyone's best shot because of what they accomplished last year. It was a total team victory and I'm really proud of our guys."

On defensive effort.
"Very proud of our defense. Holding Wofford to just 27 points in the first half was really impressive. They are an explosive offense and score a lot of points from the three point line. I was just really happy about our team defense."

On trying to control Wofford's three-point attack.
"It's a race it's so fast with they way they shoot the ball behind the line. I was really glad when we cut it to five early on. We got some stops on defense and were able to stretch the lead from that point."

On what wins games for Chattanooga.
"We're not a great three point shooting team, but I do believe we do a great job of putting pressure on the paint and opening things up from that point. They'll be a lot of games you'll see five, six three's made. We will go back and look at some numbers, but we have to continue to hang our hats on our defense."

Makinde London, R-So.-F
On slow start.
"I think we came with the right approach. We had a good two days of practice and work. We came with the right approach and things just weren't falling at first. We stuck with it, got confident and got back on track. I don't think we were sluggish or anything, we just finally clicked and got it going."

On design of offense.
"We're an inside-out team. We try running our offense through the paint. That's on guards penetrating, kicking it out, feeding the post or finding the open man on the back side. We definitely emphasize that always. We try to get on the glass on both ends of the court as much as possible. I think that it showed tonight and things were more efficient for us."

On building as a group.
"I think it's going to be a key factor for us later on and as we continue to grow. It's going to be a big part to take us to our full potential. The more we can build trust and bring this group of guys together each and every day, we'll be getting closer to that full potential."

Tre' McLean, Sr.-G
On bouncing back after slow start.
"We handled adversity. It was a focus coming in to this game and for the rest of the season. We know we are going to get other team's best shots and we have to handle adversity. We came out of that timeout and got lost in defense and guarding and let that control the game for us."

On facing every team's best shot.
"Every time we step on the court we can sense it. The non-conference definitely prepared us for what we will see in Southern Conference play. It's part of the game and we learned."

On working as a team defensively.
"We can be a great team. One of the best defensive teams in the country in my opinion. We have some work to do, but with the team we have we have the ability to play some great defense. We can block shots down low with (Justin) Tuoyo or use our length up top to control the perimeter. We have the ability to be versatile on defense."
