Post-Game Quotes at Jacksonville State
Jacksonville, Ala. – Dec. 21 – Pete Mathews Coliseum
Lamont Paris, Head Coach
Opening statement after 70-67 win over Jacksonville State.
"That's a good team. We talked about how we were going to get a good effort from them. We wanted that so we could tell where we stand and how we react. They're well coached and very physical, they're superior. They made some tough shots but we did too. We did a good job in the second half of finding more quality shots. I thought that was the difference."
On adjusting to JSU physical play & importance of shooting well.
"That's their game plan. That's where we were in the first game too. We had to make 12 three's today like we had to make ten last time. You have to stretch the floor a little bit to soften them up inside. You have to throw some punches to get them off balance. We competed so much harder in the second half. I thought there was a lot of growth today. We did a good job of executing and I felt like we were in the right place to do what we wanted to do for majority of the game."
On second half play & takeaways from win.
"I thought we played well in the second half overall. The first half felt like we were magically closer than what it should have been. We don't get too high or too low as a team and as coaches, and that's our goal. It's a basketball game. They'll be runs, you have respond. I thought out guys did a great job in responding. I was happy for our guys that we made shots and played good team basketball."
Makale Foreman, So.-G
On grinding the entire game.
"Coaches kept telling us to keep fighting and don't give up. They like to get the ball in the post and play physical. We just wanted this more and we fought more. That was the difference."
On hitting go-ahead three with :29 left.
"That was just a regular shot I shoot every day. It's just the ability to be ready to shoot the ball during crunch time. You just have to always be ready for that situation."
On feeling after hitting the three.
"Excitement and joy. But after it went in I knew I had to get back on defense and get ready. You want the win after that. You can't be careless at the end of a game. You have to take care of the ball and know when to take the right shot. You have to care for the ball. Coach Paris prepares us well for late game situations like this and we all believe in him."
Nat Dixon, So.-G/F
On coming in to rematch with JSU.
"They're a really good team. We played them really hard at our house. We knew it was going to be a battle coming in here and we just ended up playing harder and making plays down the stretch."
On Makale's three-pointer.
"I knew it was going to go in. We try to play unselfish basketball and Rodney [Chatman] drove and gave him a great kick-out. Balls tend to go in a lot more when you are playing a team game. When you play the right way, things start going your way."
On second half response.
"We came out in the first half and didn't play the way we wanted to play. We could either have laid down or played Chattanooga basketball. In the second half, we came out hard and played hard until the end. People were knocking down shots. We just tried to play our game and things went well after that."
