Post-Game Quotes at VMI
Lexington, Va. – Feb. 15 – Cameron Hall
Matt McCall, Head Coach
On effort in 74-68 win over VMI
"We missed nine layups in the first half...that's 18 points you leave off the scoreboard. I was really pleased about our defense in the first half, I thought we did a terrific job. In the second half, we didn't communicate on some stuff and didn't have a lot of resistance. We did a great job on Q.J. [Peterson], I thought that was huge. We almost got too consumed into stopping him that we let some other guys score. We missed some opportunities, but we found a way to win on the road and at this point of the season that's not easy."
On play down the stretch.
"I thought Nat [Dixon] made some key free throws and made some big defensive plays for us down the stretch. I thought we relied a lot on our starters tonight. Rodney [Chatman] gave us great minutes, made some really good plays. We just need these guys moving forward, continuing to improve."
Greg Pryor, Sr.-G
On defensive pressure against VMI's Q.J. Peterson.
"We focused on not letting him get easy shots. He got in a rhythm at our place and didn't miss. We knew if we made it tough on him, it would force him to look for his teammates, and that's what we did."
On confidence at the line late in the game.
"It's a confidence in myself and teammates, being a leader on this team. I've been in that position in a million times, fell short a couple times, but that doesn't change my confidence in handling that. If I'm capable of putting myself in that position, then I want to be there."
On team-wide confidence in late game situations.
"We have confidence in everyone that's on this team to do their job at any time in the game. Whenever someone's number is called we have confidence that anyone of us can handle it, and tonight [Johnathan] Burroughs-Cook did that for us."
Tre' McLean, Sr.-F
On hitting shots toward end of shot-clocks, game-clock.
"My teammates and coaches thave confidence in me to hit shots. Just stepping up and shooting it with confidence, and that's all that it was. I just shoot game-like reps in practice and they went in tonight."
On the confidence down the line.
"We all know that at any point it can be anyone's moment. You may have to put the team on your back. We all have confidence in each other and we all want to see each other succeed. We know that's what is best for the team. We all depend on each other and step up for each other, it's a family, we all have each others' back."
On defensive effort against Q.J. Peterson.
"Tremendous effort by Burroughs, Rodney [Chatman], and Nat [Dixon]. Not many times he [Q.J. Peterson] is going to have 12 points at the end of the game. It was just a terrific defense effort by our guys."
