Joyner Named SoCon Player of the Week

The senior earns her second straight and third Player of the Week honor this season.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Jasmine Joyner (Southaven, Miss.) was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for games played February 14-20, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Joyner garners her second consecutive SoCon Player of the Week distinction and third of the season after posting back-to-back double-doubles for the Mocs last week against UNCG and Western Carolina. The reigning SoCon Player of the Week and Player of the Month averaged 15.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and shot 56.5 percent from the field. Joyner, the nation's leading shot blocker (4.12 bpg), also totaled seven blocked shots in the Mocs' pair of road games last week.

In Chattanooga's 75-72 overtime loss at UNCG on Thursday, Joyner recorded game-highs in points, rebounds and blocked shots with 20 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots to notch a league-best 10 double-doubles this season. The Southaven, Mississippi, native also added three steals and two assists while shooting 60.0 percent (9-for-15) in Chattanooga's second SoCon loss of the season.

Joyner posted her 11th double-double this season – also her third consecutive – in the Mocs' 60-48 road win against Western Carolina on Saturday. The senior center finished with 11 points and was the only player to grab double-digit rebounds (12). Joyner shot 50.0 percent (4-for-8) from the field and swatted three Catamount field goal attempts.

Joyner's 11 double-doubles on the season is a league-best. She also leads the conference in rebounding and is the only SoCon player to average a double-double (12.5 ppg, 10.2 rpg) in 2016-17. On the boards, Joyner is 15th in the NCAA for defensive rebounding and 24th for rebounds per game.

Chattanooga (16-10, 10-2 SoCon) will close out the regular season with two home games. The Mocs will host Furman on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m., and then Wofford on Saturday at 2 p.m. UTC will honor its four seniors, including Joyner, after the game.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included: Raven Dean (ETSU), Sydni Means (Mercer), Nadine Soliman (UNCG), Hannah Nichols (Samford) and Chloe Wanink (Wofford).
