Post-Game Quotes at Samford
Birmingham, Ala. – Feb. 22 – Pete Hanna Center
Matt McCall, Head Coach
On the difference in the game.
"We gave up 42 points in the first half and 21 in the second. If we sat down and guarded the way we did in the second half, in the first half, it's a different ball game. We didn't do that and didn't get enough stops in the first half, but we fought and battled and still had chances late in the game. I was proud of the defensive effort in the second half, but you can't expect to win giving up 42 points in the first half."
On Justin Tuoyo picking up his fifth foul.
"It really hurt when
Justin Tuoyo picked up his fifth foul. We were clicking offensively with him and then that happened and Wyatt Walker took over against us. He was really good in the late game situations, you have to give him a lot of credit for that."
On Rodney Chatman's play in his first start.
"
Rodney Chatman was terrific tonight which was great for us. I was really proud of him. He didn't want to come out of the game. He didn't come out of the game until he got in foul trouble in the second half."
Rodney Chatman, Fr.-G
On first career start.
"I thought it was just another game, and another opportunity to step up. I knew this going into practice so I tried to not put any nerves on myself and keep things simple."
On pressure seeming to go away after hitting first shot.
"It's always tough to hit the first shot. I've been working on my shot in practice for a while and I made a couple threes, so the pressure seemed to go away."
Tre' McLean, Sr.-G
Thoughts on coming down the final stretch of the season.
"It's gut-check time. We have to come together and get back to work tomorrow. We have to take it one day and practice at a time. It's time to come together."
On energy level of a road game.
"It's tough, all road games are tough especially in a tough environment against a spirited team. We get everyone's best shot. We said it would be tough to sit down and get stops. It was all about staying together and getting stops at the end of the day and that's tough."
On Rodney Chatman's play in Greg Pryor's absence.
"Rodney [Chatman] did a great job. He played awesome tonight and kept us in the game. He kept us calm and did an unbelievable job. We know what he's capable of."
