RESULTS

LEXINGTON, S.C.---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team finished second at Southern Conference Championships played at the Country Club of Lexington. The ladies shot 596 over the 36-hole, rain-shortened event.

Today's 296 was powered by two par or better cards. Sophomore Monica San Juan's 2-under 70 led the way followed closely by junior Cristina Perez at minus 1. San Juan turned in four birdies against just two bogeys as Perez also record four bids versus three bogeys.

Megan Woods added 74, while Holly Morgan completed the counting cards with an 81. Maria Pineiro's 82 served as the drop tally.

San Juan, Perez and Woods all had top 10 finishes. San Juan tied for fourth at 2-over 146. Perez tied for sixth, a stroke back at 147. Woods tied for eighth, another shot back, as matching 74s gave her a total of 148.

Furman claimed the win shooting 568 (-8). UTC finished 10 shots clear of ETSU in third and 19 ahead of fourth-place Mercer. The Paladins Natalie Srinivasan was medalist at 5 under.

Notable
  • It's the ninth straight year the Mocs have finished first (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014) or second (2009, 2015, 2016, 2017) at the SoCon Championships.
  • The Mocs and Paladins were the only teams with 300 or better team scores.
  • First career top 5 (3rd top 10) for San Juan…74.65 stroke average is a new sophomore record bettering Woods' 74.86 last year…6th best season average in school history.
  • 10 birdies on today's counting cards…12th time this year the squad's recorded 10 or more over an 18.
  • Perez earned her fourth career top 10, while it was Woods' third (second at SoCon).

Quotable
"I'm proud of the fight we had today. [Per rankings] We were the third-best team coming in, and we came in second. I'm happy with our finish. We got beat by a team that is better than us right now. We didn't lose in my eyes. There's a lot to thankful and grateful for…this team is special. They care about and play for each other." – Coach Colette Murray
