CHATTANOOGA --- Junior infielder
Ashley Conner was named to the 2017 Southern Conference All-Tournament team for her offensive outburst during tournament play this week at Frost Stadium.
Conner led the entire Southern Conference Championship in multiple offensive categories including a .556 (5-for-9) batting average, two home runs and a blistering 1.222% slugging percentage. No other player in the tournament slugged over 1.000% or totaled two home runs.
The Dalton, Ga., native went 2-for-2 with a walk and run scored in a 5-4 upset win over No. 2 seed Furman in the opening round game. In an elimination game against No. 4 Samford, Conner finished 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, while scoring twice and recording a career-best five RBI.
The junior finished the season with a .305 (43-for-41) batting average and totaled nine doubles and six home runs while leading the team with 27 RBI and a .496 slugging percentage.
No. 7 seed Chattanooga went 1-2 in the double elimination tournament by notching a win over No. 2 Furman and dropping a pair of one-run games against the eventual Championship matchup of No. 3 ETSU and No. 4 Samford. The Mocs finished the year 15-38 overall with the final seven games of the season decided by two runs or less, six of which were one-run games.
No. 3 ETSU earned the Southern Conference Championship with a 6-0 win over No. 4 Samford on Saturday. The Bucs' Lindsey Fadnek, pitcher, was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player as she tossed 11.0 scoreless innings while allowing only three hits and striking out ten, five in the title game.
