Charleston, S.C. - McAlister Field House
Postgame Quotes
Lamont Paris, Head Coach
On what needed to be better.
"We have to get stops. We broke our rules some times. They also had some timely offensive rebounds. We just broke our rules defensively. The days of doing that need to be in the past if we want to have any success. We have to develop into competitors that, when it's not always perfect and you go into overtime, can't wait to get out there. Can't wait to compete. Cooler heads prevail. We preach that and it's hard to do in the heat of the battle. It's very difficult. That's something we need to work on."
On the setting the tone.
"We made some mistakes defensively. Mental mistakes. That'll come back and haunt you. We have to compete better. We have to dig better. You also have to hold your ground. You need to make that point early in the game and then move on from there."
On converting at the free-throw line & what was the difference.
"We make that an area of focus that can win you games. We need to get to the free throw line and limit others from getting there. It wasn't offense today. If you complain over 101 points than you're wrong. It was all on the defensive side today. We have to get better at the controllables. We need to learn how to get some stops on defense."
Makale Foreman, So.-G
On scoring a career-high 30 points.
"I don't care about the points. I just want to win and wanted to get that first conference win. I'd trade my stats for a win any day. We need to just go back to the drawing board and keep playing hard."
On trusting your shot.
"If I'm feeling it I know I'll shoot all game. If I'm open I'm going to take it. When the first two go in and then I know. We played well today, just didn't come out with the win."
On what was the difference & moving forward.
"They did have an advantage down low and exploited it on us. They played a great game today too. We have to move on and get ready for Mercer on Monday. It can hurt for a little bit and then we'll learn from the mistakes and try to fix them."
