Student-athletes at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga had another strong semester in the classroom, based on grade-point-average data released today. The Mocs posted a 3.062 overall GPA in the Fall of 2017, the eighth consecutive term UTC has scored better than a 3.0.
"Our student-athletes have set the bar very high when it comes to success in the classroom," stated Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics
Mark Wharton. "Our numbers from the fall exemplify this commitment to excellence in academics shown by everyone involved with our program."
UTC student-athletes first earned a 3.0 GPA in the Spring of 2014 and have stayed above that mark each semester since. A program-record 43 earned a 4.0 GPA in the fall, while 151 made the Dean's List. It is the fifth time at least half of all student-athletes (50.3%) made the Dean's List with a 3.2 GPA.
"I have been getting to know more and more of our student-athletes, since arriving in September," added Wharton. "I have been very impressed with the quality and character of the individuals we have in our program, and they have all worked hard to make this type of success the standard with Chattanooga Athletics.
"Our coaches and academic staff do an outstanding job in supporting our programs, and I think the foundation is set to continue this level of success into the future."
Women's golf led all teams with a program-record 3.83. That is the third-highest GPA on record and the best since women's cross country had a 3.85 in the spring of 2014.
Volleyball (3.60) and men's basketball (2.83) also set or tied program records for their respective squads. Each member of the women's golf team made the Dean's List, while all nine on the women's tennis student-athletes made the Athletics Director's Honor Roll with a 3.0 GPA.
UTC celebrates its annual Academic Night at the men's basketball game vs. The Citadel on Thursday, Feb. 8. All student-athletes listed below will be honored on the court at halftime of the 7:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) game against the Bulldogs.
