STATS/NOTES
CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team is back in action opening the spring half of the schedule Monday at the Moon Golf Invite. The Mocs and the 13-team field tackle Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla.
While this is the first team event, several Mocs got their first taste of competition last Saturday at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Great Waters Individual Collegiate.
Monica San Juan fired a 3-under 69 tying for second. It was the second round in the 60s this season for San Juan who shot the team's low round of 68 in round two of the Lady Paladin Invitation in September.
She was joined by
Holly Morgan and
Megan Woods at Lake Oconee. Morgan shot 75 to tie for 17th, while Woods carded 77 tying for 25th.
"I thought it was really important to get that first competitive round," Coach
Colette Murray explained. "You get those cobwebs from November…December…January and into February out of the way. To get a competitive round under their belt and be comfortable heading to Melbourne is really important.
"Monica followed the game plan and did what she needed to do. She hit 17 greens…that was the goal and she really executed and holed some putts and the one up-and-down she faced, she got.
"All-in-all, a fantastic round with great composure and attitude. It's great to get that kind of round under her belt at the start of the semester especially without a practice round [due to weather]."
Cristina Perez leads the squad with a 74.50 stroke average. She's followed by San Juan (75.23), Woods (75.69), Morgan (76.23) and
Maddy McDanel (77.25). Chattanooga is one of 11 teams in the field ranked among the top 100 in the nation.
