Softball Drops Pair at Madeira Beach Tournament

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. --- The Chattanooga softball Mocs dropped a pair of games on the opening day of the Madeira Beach Spring Games Tournament.

Chattanooga fell 1-0 to South Alabama in the morning game and then dropped a 6-0 decision to Iowa in the afternoon.

SOUTH ALABAMA 1, CHATTANOOGA 0
One run by South Alabama in the top of the first was all the scoring needed Friday morning. The Jaguars led off the game with a double and moved the runner to third on a sacrifice bunt before bringing the runner home on a sac fly to left field.

The Mocs put runners on in the second and third innings and loaded the bases in the fourth, but stranded five runners in the game. Jayce Purdy was 2-for-3 with singles in the second and fourth innings. Addy Keylon was 1-for-3 with a lead off single in the third.

Brooke Parrott went all seven innings, allowing just one run on three hits.

Another run scored in the second on a single with runners in scoring position. In the third with bases loaded, a walk sent a runner across the plate while a fielder's choice added another and a long single made it 6-0.

Chattanooga's Purdy picked up her third hit of the day with a single in the second inning and Kaili Phillips had the Mocs other hit in the game with a single in the fourth. Chattanooga drew three walks in the contest, but stranded four runners.
