Postgame Quotes vs UVA Wise
Nov. 2, 2026 | McKenzie Arena
Coach Deandra Schirmer, 3rd Season
Opening Statement:
"I definitely felt like it was a first game of the season when we started off. There's a lot of jitters, a lot of uncharacteristic plays offensively and defensively, and the message was really about settling in and being us. Making sure that we're staying poised to who we are and what we're trying to do, every single possession, whether that's offensively and defensively."
Response after "jittery" start:
"You see our response in the second quarter to be able to come out and get a single digit quarter and respond the way that we've wanted to. I think that there's a lot of things that we need to work on and still fix, but to be able to respond the way that we wanted with some energy and effort and a lot of help from our bench."
On how long she thinks it's going to take to figure out what this version of your team is like:
"There's a lot of moving pieces that go into that. Health is one of them. I think when you're saying how long it will take; I think our focus is to be at our best come tournament time. This group is going to continue to get to know each other, but I feel like there's things that we've got to shore up right away. The first is turnovers. I think our rebounding is the second thing. The other stuff I think is going to naturally progress."
Sarah Owona, Sr.-G
On getting settled into the game:
"I don't think we came out with great energy, but I do think we came back with way better energy in the second quarter."
TaTianna Stovall, So.-F
On the conversations after that first quarter:
"We need to pick it up and communicate better and just talk about everything on the court. We know who the shooters are, we know who the drivers are. She was telling us that we need to do better on knowing who those people are and picking them up in our transitional defense as well."
